ILC Mentoring Program

Colleagues are a wonderful thing – but mentors, that’s where the real work gets done. — Junot Diaz

The CIRAS/Iowa Lean Consortium Mentoring Program is a service provided to ILC members whereby the Mentoring Program Committee (MPC) establishes a temporary partnership between two ILC members for the purpose of education and networking consistent with the mission of CIRAS and the ILC. The Mentoring Program is designed to enhance the professional experience and development of the participants.

The application process is open now and we will start the matching process again in the first quarter of 2020. If we are able to match you with a mentor/mentee we will notify you and the process outlined here will be followed.

FAQs

How are mentoring matches made?

Mentoring partnerships are made on a quarterly basis via electronic application and matching procedures. Mentors and Mentees apply via electronic application. Committee members review all applications. After the Committee identifies a potential match, CIRAS/ILC staff sends an email to both partners, introducing them and providing additional information and instructions for their partnership. You can view the entire process via this flow chart.

How much time will this take?

Mentoring partnerships are actively supported by ILC for a maximum of 12 months. The time spent on deliverables is dependent on the goals and availability of the participants but we ask that participants allocate a minimum of 1-2 hours per month. Participants may choose to continue their relationship beyond the CIRAS/ILC supported time frame on their own.

How will I communicate with my partner? Will we need to meet face-to-face?

Communication may be in person, via phone, e-mail, web meeting, or other form of communication. Communications are at the expense of the participants.

What if I am not matched?

You will remain the pool of applicants and you will be considered during the next matching period which happens quarterly.

What if I am matched but the partnership is not established?

Your will remain in the pool of applicants. We will work to find you a match again during the current matching period. If we are not able to find a suitable match for you your application will be considered during the next matching period.

Do I have to be an ILC member to participate?

Yes. This program is a member benefit. Not a member? Join now!
