Lean Healthcare Exchange 2019

Lean Healthcare Exchange 2019 hosted by the Iowa Lean Consortium in Coralville, Iowa.

We are pleased to present our 2nd Lean Healthcare Exchange on August 29th in Coralville. Those who work in a healthcare setting face unique challenges so we have designed a day of learning aimed at helping you learn how to overcome those challenges. This event is not limited to those in healthcare - anyone with an interest in continuous improvement will benefit from attending.

The day will begin with a keynote address from Cindy Werkheiser. Cindy Werkheiser serves as Vice President of Service


Excellence & Process Improvement at Monroe Clinic, Monroe, WI. In this capacity, she is charged with leading strategic initiatives for service excellence and process improvement across the organization. She also has responsibility and oversight for Marketing and Business Development, Facilities, Primary Care, patient registration, scheduling and admissions; and retail services including clinic pharmacy, optical, cafe, gift and coffee shops. Cindy is the administrative lead for construction of a new medical office building due to open in June, 2019. She also leads the efforts of practice transformation that informed the design of the new building.

In this keynote Cindy will share the Lean journey of the Monroe Clinic. You will learn how Monroe Clinic accelerated improvement through training, accountability, respect, and partnership. The organization created a foundation of A3 thinking to improve daily operations and overall performance. Monroe Clinic has integrated LEAN into all aspects of its business model including job descriptions and interviews, daily operations, standard work, and coaching. The organization is committed to developing people across the entire organization – both clinical and non-clinical employees. Improvement is not completed or owned by LEAN facilitators, it is driven and executed by the people who do the work.

The Monroe Clinic is a rural, integrated hospital and outpatient clinic located approximately 35 miles South of Madison of Wisconsin. The clinic employs approximately 1,100 employees including 90 Physicians and 40-50 Advanced Practice Providers. Monroe Clinic improved employee engagement from the 33rd to the 83rd percentile. A 150% improvement within 6 years leading to continued and sustained improvement in patient experience, quality, safety, and financial performance. Several strategic initiatives created the fertile ground for LEAN to become rooted in its culture.

Your day of learning will continue with breakout sessions focused on three tracks - introducing, growing and sustaining continuous improvement. You will not pre-register for breakouts, they will be filled on a first come, first seated basis.
